Gift Cards Galore

Image
I had the opportunity to host a swap for VC Rocks this summer.  My swap was gift card holders.  I was excited to get some ideas hosting this swap.  I'm known to buy a gift card and toss it inside the card, put it in the envelope, seal it and call it good.  This top holder is one of my favorites from the swap.   Anita Watson  started with a base of a full-sized card (4-1/4x5-1/2).  In the center upper half of the right side on top, she used a circle punch, cutting half of a circle.  She then folded the top part of the card in half.  You can see that there is a flap in the picture where the Calypso Coral CS is.  This is where the gift card is held.  The 1/2 circle punch makes for easy access to the gift card. Beverly Williams  made this gift card holder.  The Summer Sun CS slides out and holds the gift card. Sue-Lynn Bock showed a creative way to use the petal punch! Diane Villegas  has a fun ang...

Fire Within Table Runner

Image
It has taken me a couple of weeks to get a picture of this table runner.  The table has been covered with a cutting mat, my sewing machine, cases that hold my squares, etc.  I finally cleaned it up because work has stopped on the Revolution quilt I'm working on.  Life got in the way with all of its demands and I haven't had the time to work on it.  It is all easily accessible to pull out when I'm ready to work again and I should probably put it away so we can sit around the table again and talk and play games. The pattern for this table runner is called Fire Within.  I picked it to do because of the bargello pattern.  When my mother and I were in Pennsylvania, I saw a quilt that I liked and I thought, "I can do this."  While not the same as what I saw . . . I could have done it.  I really was drawn to the graduated width of the squares and that is what I wanted to achieve.  Since I can do it with paper, I can do it with fabric.  ...

Block 7 - Godspeed

Image
This is block 7 of the Ramblin' Rose Meets Jamestown Quilt.  I'm not sure why Godspeed is the name for the block.  I am happy with the way it turned out.  I had my fabric in order on the table and when I was cutting and mistakenly grabbed the yellow fabric, cutting what should have been the green triangles.  Oops.  I cut the green triangles as I should have and then went on to the yellow fabric cutting the pieces I needed.  Fortunately I didn't have to dip into my personal stash for the yellow.  I was able to cut all of the needed pieces from what was left of my cutting and 2 of the triangles.  Now I have 2 extra yellow triangles for my scraps pile.  What I get for joking around with my son while cutting instead of paying attention to the details. I'm close to being done with the binding on my table runner.  I've been taking it with me to work on while I'm waiting at appointments, piano, etc.
